My worth is determined by who I am, not by what I do.
You’re a giver … by nature. You love to help people and do things for them and just plain love on them. It is one of the things that makes you the absolutely amazing person that you are.
But, sometimes, our help is not appreciated by those we help. And then, not only are they not even fucking thankful for it but they want more… and more… and more… Hmm, this sounds like the definition of our children, doesn’t it?
If you find yourself in this situation right now, I’d like to say two things:
First, you are a ROCK STAR! You are an incredible person who does so much for people. If they are too blind to see that then let this serve as your official, “Thank you!” In fact, get in the habit of thanking yourself! Pat yourself on the fucking back right now and say, “Day-um! I wish I had me as a friend (or mom, etc.)! I’m the bees knees!”
Second, the universe wants you to know that you are a ROCK STAR even when you don’t do anything for anyone. You are incredible, just because you are YOU! You are not required to do a damn thing to gain your rock star status. It’s already yours – congratulations!
So, give yourself a fucking break today. If you’ve been giving and giving, just stop for a minute and give something to yourself … maybe some time alone; a walk in the park; watch a movie; take a bath. Create an “out to lunch” sign and don’t help anyone, even if it’s just for a little bit. You deserve it, Rock Star.
