I never compare myself to others because I’m incomparable!

Action Plan:

I’m sure you’ve heard this quote before, but it bears repeating. We are bombarded with media and advertising that are constantly telling us how much better someone else’s life is. “And yours can be better too, for 3 easy payments of $19.95 plus shipping and handling…”

So, today I’m going to suggest something radical… take a break from ALL advertising. TV ads, radio ads, magazines, etc. Social media too, if it makes you feel shitty (and if you have the strength!). Pretty much, if something makes you feel badly about yourself, JUST DON’T DO IT! (see what I did there?)

It’s time to do a detox! And whenever you need a “fix,” pull out your journal, and write one of these things down (or all of them):

1. Be Grateful – Write 3 things you’re grateful for. List experiences, memories, people and things you love …. Whatever brings you joy.

2. Love yourself – Write down 3 things you like about yourself. List accomplishments, attributes, quirks, thoughts/ideas…

And tomorrow, when you return to the media frenzy, be less frenzied and more mindful. If looking through that magazine makes you think, “Oh, shit! My under arms AREN’T summer ready!” look at your lists again and remember what’s true.

Take care of yourself. You are amazing … just as you are. Don’t let anyone try to tell you … or sell you … anything differently.
