I embrace every little thing about myself because it all adds up to make me the incomparable, one of a kind person that I am.
I don’t excel at any one thing. I’m pretty good at a lot of things, but I’ve never had that “passion” for one thing (well, not for too long, anyway). I have spent most of my life searching for that one thing and the fact that I haven't found it, has always troubled me.
It had made me feel like I was not really special, you know. Like I was just … ugh … that dreaded word … average.
But then I found this wonderful word: multipotentialite. It was coined by a woman named Emilie Wapnick from PuttyLike.com. She describes a multipotentialite as: Someone with many interests and creative pursuits. They have no “one true calling” the way specialists do and thrive on learning, exploring, and mastering new skills. They are excellent at bringing disparate ideas together in creative ways.
Suddenly I felt vindicated … understood … like there was finally a place for me in the world! I think we’ve all felt like this at one time or another … like you just don’t quite measure up to whatever society has currently decided is a “worthwhile” pursuit (and, hey, if you haven’t felt like that, I say Bravo to you!).
So, today, I want you to coin your own word for whatever describes the rare, in a class by itself, resplendent you. Don’t wait for the world to catch up to you and finally understand your distinctive greatness. Go ahead and embrace it now. Embrace every little quirky idiosyncrasy. Make it your goal to remember, and to continue to remind yourself, how fucking spectacular you are … just as you are ...
And, for the love of all that’s holy, you have got to tell me the word! Hell, tell the whole world! Maybe someone else needs to hear it too!
Spiral level: All
