I choose to see the world and everyone and everything with love.
A few years ago, I was flipping through Facebook and saw an image that said “Only Love Today.” It just struck me. I didn’t know exactly what it was there for or what it meant to the person who posted it, but it really resonated with me. I decided to make it my mantra for the rest of the day and have used it occasionally as a mantra ever since.
For me, it means that I can choose how I will look at things: I can look at something and see fear or hatred or judgment or sarcasm or whatever. Or I can choose to see everything with love.
When my husband is getting on my last freakin’ nerve, I can choose to see him as the loving man I adore. When someone is rude or short with me, I can choose to send them love, knowing that they're probably dealing with some shit. When bad shit happens, I can choose to be grateful to the universe for it, because it is surely something that will make me a better person down the line. And, when I’m beating myself up or judging myself harshly, I can choose to give myself a freakin’ break and just send myself some love and compassion.
So, just for today, see everything with love, send love to everything you see. And know that you can always choose that, whenever you want.
BTW: Later I Googled it and apparently there is a book by Rachel Macy Stafford with that title. I’m not sure if that’s what I originally saw, and I haven’t read it, but it sounds great, if you want to check it out.
