I believe in the goodness of people; despite what I read on Facebook.
Ugh! Social Media! It’s supposed to be social, and, the last time I checked, social things were supposed to be fun and bring us together, weren’t they? Unfortunately it can so easily turn into a shit storm of opinions, arguments and name calling. Even if you’re not the one doing the arguing, when you see it happening with people you know (and thought you cared about), it can, too often, make us distrust, dislike or even “unfriend” our friends.
Why not take a break from it today? Or, if you must partake, just skip reading or writing anything that might make you feel badly about one of your friends – even if it fits your narrative.
Instead, take a tip from Neil Young’s song, “One of These Days”:
One of these days, I'm gonna sit down and write a long letter To all the good friends I've known. And I'm gonna try and thank them all for the good times together. Though so apart we've grown.
Kick it “old school” and take out your nicest stationary, a card, or just a piece of paper from the printer (it doesn’t really matter), and write a note to a friend. Reminisce, catch up, tell them what you love about them. If you have time, write two friends. In fact, make a list of people you’d like to write to. Just spend some time thinking about and appreciating people that you love.
Spiral level: Meh, Pretty Darn Good, Great
Use when feeling: People! Ugh!
