I am ever present in, and in constant awe of, the world.
I was watching a group of birds flying today. They were really big birds, hawks or something, about 20 of them. They were all flying in unison, back and forth, in big sweeping arcs, as if it was a dance. I was mesmerized by them and it just made me smile. As I watched them it made me think how much fun it would be to fly – how freeing it would feel.
Then, I wondered… do birds ever have fun flying? I wonder if they ever think, in their own birdy way, "Oh my God! This is so cool that we can fucking fly!” In truth, they’re probably just searching for some food and the “dance” they’re doing is nothing more than another busy day at work. That made me think of all of the things that we take for granted in the universe… the world… in ourselves!
Take the time to be present in the world today. Notice the amazing things around you. Marvel all over again at the fact that a light turns on when you simply flip a switch; or the fact that we carry all of the knowledge of the world in a device in our pocket; or that a simple text from you can make a friend smile (and vice-versa).
If you have time and would like more inspiration, Google these:
- Search Images for "Amazing Pictures" (or anything similar). I just did and WOW!
-Watch the music video called “Carl Sagan - 'A Glorious Dawn” – gives me goosebumps every time!
-And it’s probably not PC to mention him anymore, but if you want something funny, watch Louis CK do his comedy bit called, “Everything’s Amazing and Nobody’s Happy.” It’s so funny and so true.
I think that you’ll find, the more present you are in moments, the more you’ll be able to appreciate the magic of the universe.
